Wide leadership programme at Vermaat

Vermaat is a flat, fast-growing hospitality organisation. Its 4,000 employees work in small teams at (business) hospitality locations and in the hospital food service. At Vermaat, leadership is important at all levels of the organisation. Due to full diaries and irregular shifts, it is impossible to plan a few days for leadership training for a group of people. The solution is a smart combination of innovative online group training, an active social platform, and a balanced programme of online and offline assignments.

Skills for Leadership

In the eight-week programme, the participants are trained in a commonly used skill on the basis of the servant leadership idea: good colleagues thrive under a good leader. Learning techniques to guide employees in their growth and development is a key aspect of this training. The participants learn and practise various techniques, which they will then use in a specific ‘development interview’ with one of their employees. Every week, they work individually or together on assignments in the comfort of their training group or in practice on the shop floor. +

Skills for Leadership

Training as a group

Leadership skills are best trained in group training, so that the participants can exchange experiences and reflect on their own behaviour and that of others. Intensive processes may benefit from the bonds and support in the group. The leadership training is taken by groups of 20 persons. They meet twice at online sessions under the guidance of an experienced trainer. At the sessions, which are considerably more interactive than the well-known webinars, there is room for knowledge transfer, discussion, breakout sessions, exercises and feedback. These sessions are alternated with review sessions in smaller groups and supported by face-to-face interviews with a buddy. +

Training as a group

Sustainable and efficient learning

As the shared parts of the programme are online, it is easier to fit the training into the participants’ work and private life. In terms of the time required, the programme is comparable with intensive offsite programmes. With eight weeks the lead time is much longer, so that the net learning effect is greater. Because learning, practising and reflecting are spread, there is more room for putting the knowledge gained to good use. This will lead to more impact and better results in day-to-day practice.

Blueprint for the future

The training programme is taken by ten to fifteen groups. It is based on a learning framework that can be reused. The set-up of the online platform, learning agenda and working methods also allows for easy integration of other themes. After the successful pilot, Vermaat will start several new follow-up training programmes.

Target group

If you want to support leadership organisation-wide, tailor-made development will certainly be interesting for you. Even if you want to take a thorough, interactive training, but you do not have the possibility of reserving time for all participants simultaneously for longer than a few hours, we will be pleased to tell you more.
