StartUp: Blended onboarding

Randstad Groep Nederland - Randstad, Tempo-Team and Yacht - welcomes dozens of new employees every month. For these new colleagues to be onboarded properly, they are invited to attend a number of training days: the StartUp. These training courses, which are held at a special location, help the newcomers to form a strong group bond. But how can you maintain that bond between training days?

And how do you make sure that the exercises on the training days reflect working practices? Together with Randstad Groep Nederland, we have created the upgraded StartUp: A blended onboarding programme that combines the proven benefits of the training days with a challenging online onboarding platform. With unique content and in the three house styles of Randstad, Tempo-Team and Yacht.

Smarter

Randstad Groep Nederland’s target group of intermediaries, recruiters, planners and account specialists is passionate and always relishes a challenge. In My StartUp, new employees take on different challenges divided over six sprints.

The first time you log on, you go through an intake procedure with questions about your work. This personalises the challenges. You face challenges that help you find your way in your job. There are also challenges you tackle together with the group of onboardees.

You can score points with every challenge and at the end of each sprint you can boost your score in a quiz. That competitive structure proved to be a winner – the participants were fanatical even during the first test. +

More social

At TinQwise, our activities are always based on the group’s strengths. The group dynamic that develops during the training days is reinforced during the online training course. We encourage interaction, and participants use a time line to help each other and share content. They can also work together by initiating online live chats. That way, they are always in contact with colleagues at their own branch, but also with colleagues across the country.

Challenges

‘Take part in a new business meeting with your colleague and evaluate it together', ‘Take a photograph of your workplace and share it on the StartUp time line.’ The challenges are practical and content-based and focus on onboarding. After the training days, the new employees are assigned follow-up challenges to make sure that what they learn during those days really sticks and is followed up.

Link up with the real-life situation

The progress made during the onboarding process is saved in a portfolio. This portfolio is the basis for the Sprint Chat between managers and new employees. It gives managers an insight into the day-to-day tasks of the new intermediaries and means they can supervise them more effectively.
