Change in behavior within a day

Change in behavior within a day

In 2014 ING Belgium began to transition to Agile working. There was a clear need for training that would allow the employees to be guided into this process. ING asked TinQwise for a learning solution that would change minds within a day and also train soft skills, for as many as 800 employees! That required a concept with high impact: location-based learning.

Location Based Learning

Similar to classroom learning situations, people will show up at a specific location - but the learning process will take place on tablets or smartphones. At ING, everybody got to borrow a tablet which led them to interesting locations throughout the building. Each location would provide them with matching information and assignments – by Bluetooth beacon – on their tablets. Next, they attended workshops to further practice and apply Agile skills. By learning in a specific location and moving around while doing so, it was easier for the new knowledge to settle in. Several senses were stimulated by the learning process: people got to see hear and experience the training.

Behavioral change

This approach was effective in making a change in behavior happen. Almost all participants were very excited about the approach and – even more importantly – about agile working after they had participated in the Agile Experience day. Mission accomplished! Participants indicated that they felt more confident because they knew which behavior was expected from them and they’d had a chance to practice beforehand.

Scoop, award and more

ING Belgium had a real worldwide scoop with this Location Based Learning solution. Nowhere before has there been a training in such an innovative and effective manner. This innovation has been rewarded with a L&D award in 2016. TinQwise has started to apply Location Based Learning also at other Belgian organizations.
